NATIONAL NUTRITION EDUCATION PROGRAM (NNEP)

 

Overview

The NNEP translates and operationalizes the Nutrition Education impact program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) into doable and concrete actions and projects to achieve nutritional goals. It is envisioned to integrate, rationalize and harmonize all nutrition eductaion efforts initially by key national government agencies (NGAs) and selected nongoverment organizations (NGOs), and eventually, efforts of the other NGOs, including private voluntary organizations ad civic organizations; local government units (LGUs), and business corporations.

 

Objectives

The NNEP aims to improve nutrition and health-related practices of pregnant and lactating women. children 0-5 years old and school-aged children, including key influencers or those who can affect or influence the behaviors of the primary targets.

More specifically, the program aims to improve:

1. infant and child feeding practices by pregnant and lactating women, mothers and other caregivers
2. care of pregnant and lactating women
3. availment of child-related services
4. nutrition and related practices among children 6-12 years old
5. practise of hand washing

Target Groups

1. Primary targets:

  • Pregnant and lactating mothers
  • Mothers of preschoolers
  • School-aged children

2. Secondary targets:

  • Mother/mother-in-law/lola/significant others/other caregivers
  • Husband
  • Adolescents
  • Friends and relatives
  • Religious, NGOs and private sector
  • Local chief executives/ local sanggunian
  • Traditional birth attendants
  • Health and nutrition workers
  • Business sector, food manufacturer
  • Business sector, non-food manufacturer

  • Fruit, vegetables and animals producers

  • Scriptwriters (TV and film) and disc jockeys
